The second annual Tiffany Foundation Awards were presented to two organizations in Japan on June 26, 2009. The Tiffany & Co. Foundation and the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) established The Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society to recognize organizations in Japan who incorporate traditional local culture into contemporary activities, revive traditional cultural activities contributing to community revitalization and promote domestic and international exchange relating to traditional arts and culture. Like this award, Tiffany & Co. incorporates its strong heritage and history into its collections today and the Foundation is honored to support organizations with a similar commitment to craftsmanship.
The two winners are: Earth Celebration Committee from Sado City, an international arts festival featuring the musical performing group "Kodo" and Kurobei Project Team Murakami City, which works to bring back historic and cultural elements to its city. The winners were selected by a distinguished jury and each received a ¥2 million award.
