The fifth annual Tiffany Foundation Awards were presented to two organizations in Japan on October 4, 2012. The Tiffany & Co. Foundation and the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) established The Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society to recognize organizations in Japan who incorporate traditional local culture into contemporary activities, revive traditional cultural activities contributing to community revitalization and promote domestic and international exchange relating to traditional arts and culture.

The two winners are:

  • Yamamoto Noh Theater from Osaka City, Osaka is a national heritage site where Noh, the oldest form of Japanese theatrical art, is preserved and performed through performance, workshops and education, and
  • Wajima Dozo Culture Renovation Center from Wajima City, Ishikawa preserves dozo, Japan’s traditional architectural structures, for use as community centers, art venues and spaces to celebrate traditional inheritance.

The Tiffany & Co. Foundation is pleased to honor the importance of Japan’s cultural heritage through this contemporary celebration of timeless culture.
