The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Woodland Gardens opened to the public at The Battery in New York City on August 20, 2015. The beautiful new gardens surround the acclaimed SeaGlass Carousel, a whimsical ride celebrating the spirit of New York’s harbor, and in honor of the first location of New York City’s Aquarium.
The Foundation’s support enabled The Battery Conservancy—the nonprofit organization spearheading the park’s transformation—to create a beautiful garden within The Battery. Designed to seamlessly incorporate a variety of native plants into the surrounding landscape, The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Woodland Gardens bloom in such a way that crease a sense of fluidity throughout the park space.
Both the new carousel and the gardens are integral to the Battery Conservancy’s efforts to rehabilitate the park, a key section of the city’s waterfront and one of the oldest public spaces in continuous use. These additions will provide a unique respite and delight millions of locals and tourists alike who visit the area each year.
Through its Urban Parks Program, the Foundation focuses on strategic design improvements of urban parks in order to enhance surrounding communities and the environment. The Woodland Garden’s association with the SeaGlass Carousel provides additional synergy with the Foundation’s Coral Conservation Program which seeks promote the preservation of precious corals and healthy marine ecosystems. The Tiffany & Co. Foundation is pleased to support The Battery Conservancy’s success in advancing urban revitalization in New York City.
